Even at age three I was already thinking about Coca-Cola.  My mom thought it was my destiny to be a 2011 scholar.  (Mom’s are like that!)

   While in Atlanta, we were involved in a community service project.  We worked in small groups and painted rain barrels that would be auctioned on E-bay as a fund raising campaign for the Coca-Cola Scholar’s Foundation.

  Thank you again Coca-Cola!

     It felt like such an honor to be in front of such beauty; it was almost magical.  Every sunset and ocean wave that I saw just reminded me of how important it is to continue our efforts to protect our environment.  This adventure that I was set upon just proves that the world is our playground, but to continue to play we must protect the grounds that we inhabit.

     To continue seeing the natural beauties of the world we must continue to preserve it and enjoy all the world has to offer.  Thank you again, Girls Life for the amazing trip to Amelia Island Plantation and I will continue to work as an advocate of our environment and inspire others to do the same.

      The picture I added this month is from the American Clay, Inc. workshop that was held at Lorax Lodge.  All of these amazing people helped with the interior finish on the walls.  Carol Baumgartel, Marketing Director with AC traveled from NM to make sure the walls were perfect.  And they are.  I also want to thank Hamilton Acoustical of Lubbock, Texas for their hard work in prepping the walls for American Clay.  I don’t think I can ever thank these wonderful people enough for volunteering to help make Lorax Lodge the incredible building that it is today.

Summer Green Tip.
We all like bottled water but how many of us leave water in the bottle?  Use this water by emptying in flower pots or even the dog’s water bowl!

Green Tip of the Month.  Now that school is out, walk and ride your bike.  Not only will you get great exercise but you will save fuel, too.

Hey   Everyone,
      I am combining my March and April blogs.  This is a super busy time of the year for me but I  wanted to do something special to celebrate EARTH WEEK!  I also wanted to let you all know that my project, The Vision is Green, has been recognized and I will be receiving the Presidential Environmental Youth Award (PEYA) in Washington DC.  I am super excited and really proud to receive the award as a reflection of the hard work and commitment that so many made in helping me build Lorax Lodge and to bring my vision of green to the Texas South Plains. 

     The picture this month is in front of the hiking trail I made that leads to Lorax Lodge.  It is a steep  1/4 mile hike and is beautiful in the late Spring with all the wild flowers.  I named it Rattler Trail for the very cool rattle snake I found on my trail last Spring. 

DREAMS
We dream of greener pastures
and dream of clear blue skies;
We dream of climbing mountains
and on occasion, we hope to rise.

But sometimes as we go along;
we might forget what is right and what is wrong.

We might forget when we had nothing
and only had the land to rely;
Soon our money will run out
and dreams may say good-bye.

So in vain this attempt may seem–
all I ask is don’t forget your dreams!

March & April Green Tip
Just have a super Spring and celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd.  Send me a note sometime because I would love to hear from you.

So for my tip of the month… instead of buying fresh cut flowers for a special occasion such as Valentines Day, a Birthday or Anniversary, buy a plant that can be re-planted outside when the weather is warmer. Your gift could possibly live for several years versus a few days. Also, Valentines Day cards are great to receive but don’t throw them in the trash – remember to recycle them, too.

The picture in this month’s blog is a water recycling barrel that is being used at Lorax Lodge. This is a great way to use rain water for a slow drip irrigation system for your own yard and garden. I thought you might want to see how great they look as you start planning your spring and summer gardens.
